Danger Anticipation

If the rider can anticipate risks, getting caught in dangerous situations is greatly reduced.

Anticipating "danger" is very effective in minimizing accident risks.

================================================

Riding thru intersections with traffic lights while left turning lane is congested.
-->

  1. The vehicle ahead may turn suddenly without warning.
  2. Oncoming vehicle may turn.
  3. Vehicles may move - off suddenly from parking without looking.

Pointers

Congested roads may be deemed safer as vehicles move at lower speeds. For riders of small motorcycles, it may be more difficult to watch out for blind spots or observe surrounding traffic conditions. They have to be extra careful of oncoming vehicles, those coming from parking lots and pedestrians dashing-off between parked cars.

Riding along congested roads that are surrounded by restaurant lots, side roads and parked cars.

Potential Dangers
  1. Parked vehicles may suddenly move-off without any warning
  2. Kids may dash-out between parked cars. Watch out for shadows.
  3. Vehicles may reverse suddenly from a secondary street.
  4. Bicycles may appear suddenly from the side roads
  5. Pedestrians may cross at a "no crosswalk area"
Pointers
Vehicles and pedestrian collision oftentimes happen along narrow roads in commercial areas. In such places, it is important to anticipate dangers - including pedestrian movement.
